Show Notes

We’re broadcasting live from DjangoCon at Google.

Before we get started I’d like to ask for a show of hands how many people are listeners to This Week in Django?

For those of you that aren’t aware of the podcast, This Week in Django is a weekly podcast that covers what is going on in the Django Community. We feature segments that touch on recent commits, occasional interviews, some items from the community, and a Tip of the Week. You can find out more at http://thisweekindjango.com/.

  • This Week in Django Redesign – the code, the design, the idea of an open sourced version of it, the new angle for TWiD as both the podcast AND an edited community portal.

A lot of people that are new to the program may be unaware that the intro we use on TWiD was written by Adrian Holovaty. Thank you Adrian, it’s our favorite part of the show.

Community Catchup

  • Cloud27 – Is an early-beta social networking site built on the open-source Pinax platform. James Tauber actually released Cloud27 live in his Talk on Pinax and reusable apps.
  • Django i18n Stats – An incredible site build on Google App Engine that gives you the status of the 47 Django translations.
  • How to upgrade to Django Comments 1.0 With the recent release of new comments, those who want to upgrade from old comment have some work to do. Patrick Beeson noted the steps needed to update your database updates, data migrations, markup changes, CSS changes, etc.
  • Django Tips Podcast – Beshr Kayali began a new Django Tips Podcast. It’s great to see other people in the community getting started with podcasts. We wish Beshr luck.
  • django-clevercss This project allows you to create CleverCSS (CleverCSS is a small markup language for CSS inspired by Python that can be used to build a style sheet in a clean and structured way) stylesheets using the classic Django administration utility stored in your database. The included template tag retrieve the stylesheet by its title and spits out a file on the filesystem each time the stylesheet changes in the database.
  • Amusing Tidbits from DjangoCon 2008
    • “The loos’ seats at Building 40 of the Googleplex are heated! I have never met a warmed toilet seat before. The lap of luxury, indeed.”
    • “Speaking of male heavy tech conferences, the upside is that there is plenty of eye candy if you prefer the gents. Slightly geeky eye candy, but delightful nonetheless.”

#37 isn't showing up in my iTunes podcast list. Is this happening to anyone else?

  • kevin said

@Lee HInde, we're using the Live at DjangoCon episode as our official Episode #37, and we currently don't have the audio for that.

We planned on having an episode this week for everyone buy unfortunately Michael has been without power at his home for almost 2 days now.

Please visit our episodes page to watch the Live from DjangoCon episode, and if we can get the audio we'll try and get it into iTunes for you as well.

Episode #38 will be coming to you next week for sure.

    Thanks for being patient.

Thanks Kevin; I should have assumed it was storm related. Resuming patience. :-)
